ordinary days/💸

good things come to those who wait (ft. macbook air m1)

After deliberating for almost a year, I finally went ahead and splurged(?) on a MacBook Air.

Good thing I didn't buy one earlier in the year though, and waited out to see if Apple woul have any Black Friday sales, because that meant I was able to get my hands on the latest MacBook Air with the new Apple M1 chip and not the old Intel chip.

In terms of specs, I went ahead and bought the 8-core MacBook Air M1 in Silver with upgraded 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage.

After almost a week of using it, I can say that I'm glad that I went ahead and bought it.

Reasons I definitely don't regret buying it:

  • The seamless connection between my iPone/iPad/airpods alone made the purchase worth it. No more messy importing/exporting and USB cables needed when transferring notes/files between machines
  • The battery on this machine is seriously so impressive... I can probably get away with only needing one charge for the whole day. (Two days if I'm only using it for a couple of hours.)
  • Touch ID for passwords and logging in
  • Using my iPad as a second monitor with sidecar

However, there are still some things that I'm getting used to:

  • the process of installing and uninstalling programs
  • pressing caps lock to switch bewteen language keyboards
  • finder instead of windows explorer (the messiness of icons in the downloads folder)
  • keyboard shortcuts like ctrl + h for history in chrome is now cmd + y in safari
  • having to use Chrome to watch youtube because adblock won't block youtube ads in Safari
